You can absolutely do MMA just for fun, in fact most people do! Learning MMA is a great way to keep fit and will also teach you self discipline, confidence and self defense. Plus it’s a great way to meet like minded people and make new friends.

If you are interested in MMA then I’d definitely recommend going to some beginner classes and starting to learn. As the sport is growing in popularity there are more and more MMA training schools popping up all over the US.

You can choose a martial art to begin with that aligns with your personal goals, as there are a few main techniques in MMA you can start with the one that interests you the most.

There is stand up striking fighting like boxing, muay thai, karate and taekwondo, these methods are focused on striking with your hands, elbows, feet and knees.

There are grappling techniques that use leverage and your opponent’s weight against them like judo and jiu-jitsu.

And there is ground fighting which includes submission holds like wrestling and jiu-jitsu. These martial arts are a good place to start for beginners so you can work on your form and build your strength up.

Becoming a professional MMA fighter is tough, and unfortunately most people won’t make it. However, if you do manage to become professional it is an extremely rewarding career and really fun.

If you do manage to be an MMA fighter then you will love what you are doing. You’ll have been training MMA for at least 5 years by that point, so if you didn’t find it fun then you would have given up long ago.

If you are interested in becoming a professional MMA fighter then there is a more indepth post about how hard it is to go pro in MMA.

Although you don’t need to be a professional MMA fighter to compete, if you are training at a gym then the natural way to improve is to enter competitions. This is a fun way to push yourself and showcase your skills.

Why Is MMA So Exciting?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. With so many sports fans to please, it can be difficult to pinpoint what’s so exciting about MMA fighting. But if you take a closer look, there are some key characteristics that make MMA fighting so exhilarating.

First off, MMA fighters must be proficient in all sorts of martial arts which forces them to be well-rounded athletes. The sport is composed of a wide variety of fighting styles and techniques, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing and wrestling. Fans find the sport so thrilling because “no one knows what’s going to happen,” and the fighters are allowed to use any methods in order to win their match.

MMA is a full-contact combat sport where two athletes are pitted against one another. It can be an exciting sport because it teaches people to battle through many different ways, with the most common being grappling and striking.

A fighter can go from dominating an opponent to getting dominated with just one mistake. A knockout can happen at any given moment and that keeps things interesting.

Final Thoughts

MMA is extremely fun, whether you are a spectator, a fighter or training. It’s as much fun to watch as it is to train. Mainly because there are so many different skills at play which make it more interesting than a boxing match or football game.

MMA is unpredictable. The competitors can win or lose at any moment, which makes it fun to watch.
